spiritual house!
Saint Peter
A MESSAGE TO OUR AUDIENCE
We are delighted and very thankful that the skillful restoration of
the Immanuelskirche has been completed. Its history as a sacred
building is a unique testament of religious life in Wuppertal and
its superb acoustics make it an up-to-date concert hall that is
optimally equipped for the future, both visually and technically.
In today’s world, the preservation and meaningful use of a church
cannot be taken for granted. The Trägerverein Immanuelskirche (sponsors‘
association of the Immanuelskirche) has been successfully filling
the church with life for 25 years and the Kantorei Barmen-Gemarke choir forms the backbone of these activities with its concerts,
cantata church services, lieder recitals and organ matinees.
Saint Peter’s invitation is appropriate to church music at a time of
crisis: many changes are occurring in social, economic and religious
life and it is hard to predict where they will lead. This is an
invaluable signal to us that we should seek new ways of promoting
culture and music with a new adviser in these two spheres. A
“Festival of Voices” in autumn 2009 showcases the human voice. A
person expresses thoughts and feelings by means of their voice. The
Kantorei Barmen-Gemarke is organizing the closing concert of the
festival with many artists from Wuppertal.
We would particularly like to thank our partners for their
continuing support this year. They strengthen our endeavours to fill
the fabric of the Immanuelskirche with living sound. If you enjoy
our music, spread the word. Come and listen to a concert in the
newly renovated Immanuelskirche and bring your friends.
